Toxic Charity, by Robert D. Lupton. This book critically reviews the world Aid system and proposes a more sustainable solution to poverty through business and job creation. He wrote a follow up book called “Charity Detox” which provides additional solutions to poverty upliftment through business.
When Helping Hurts, by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. Like Toxic charity, this books describes some of the hurt that our acts of goodwill have (usually unintentionally) caused.
When our hearts are moved to help – we need to consider the long term impact of our actions and whether they will bring sustainability long term or just provide a “quick fix” which actually hurts long term.
